GAP update & farewell to Lalita Simpson

We have written a project update which is now available from the
Australasian Systematic Botany Society Inc. newsletter at the following link on pages 6 -7: https://asbs.org.au/newsletter/pdf/22-mar-190.pdf

We very sad to announce that Lalita Simpson will conclude her role as the GAP Research Community Project Manager on Fri, 22 April.

Lalita joined the GAP project in Feb 2020 and her primary role was focused on the Australian Angiosperm Tree of Life (AAToL) project, co-ordinating sampling efforts among many nationally distributed teams, handling and curating the metadata associated with samples submitted for the project.

Lalita also works closely with the Plant and Fungal Trees of Life (PAFTOL) team to coordinate sampling and data exchange between PAFTOL and GAP.
In Nov 2021, Lalita led and coordinated the GAP Phylogenomics Mini Symposium. The event was a great success and was a great opportunity to bring the plant community together.

Lalita is also a key member of the GAP Training team and has prepared many resources that are now widely available for the plant community.

Last but not least, Lalita is also a key member of the GAP phylogenomics working group and has also contributed in the drafting of many GAP updates for the Australasian Systematic Botany Society Inc. (ASBS) newsletter.

GAP would not be the success it is today without Lalita and we really appreciate having her on the project.

Lalita will formally conclude her role this Friday and will stay on as a member of the GAP phylogenomics working group.
